Prof Richard Cohn
Associate Professor Cohn is a Paediatric Oncologist and until December 2013 was Head of Clinical Oncology, Kids Cancer Centre, Sydney Children’s Hospital (SCH). He is the Clinical Director of Medicine at SCH; Chairman of the SCH Brain Tumour Collaborative; Head of the Long-term Follow-up and Neuro-Oncology Programmes, SCH; conjoint Associate Professor in the School of Women’s and Children’s Health, University of New South Wales (UNSW); and a Clinical Research Associate of the Children’s Cancer Institute Australia. He is the Co-director (Paediatrics) of the NSW Cancer Survivorship Centre in the Faculty of Medicine, UNSW.
A/Prof Cohn has worked in paediatric oncology for over 30 years, and has a strong leadership status in the field. He serves on multiple national and international paediatric oncology boards and committees, including: the NSW Cancer Institute, Child and Adolescent Oncology Group (Member), Australian and New Zealand Children’s Haematology Oncology Group (ANZCHOG) (Member), International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP) (Member), Committee for Supportive Care of SIOP (Committee Member); Children’s Oncology Group, USA (Investigator and Member), American Society of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology (Member). A/Prof Cohn is also a highly-respected advocate for the interests of children and their families who are treated for cancer and blood diseases in the community, and currently serves as a Regional Counselor, Redkite Charity, NSW, Ronald McDonald House Charities, National Advisory Committee, Learning programme, and Medical Advisor, SCH Foundation Joshua Holland Leukaemia Fund. A/Prof Cohn has also played a role both nationally and internationally in the furtherance of quality research collaborations in paediatric oncology. A/Prof Cohn has also fostered key international collaborations in the field, as a principal investigator on an international, limited institution study on paediatric medulloblastoma with St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Memphis. A/Prof Cohn contributes to international paediatric oncology research as a regular reviewer for the journals of Pediatric Hematology Oncology, Cancer, Journal of Paediatrics, the Medical Journal of Australia, Pediatric Blood and Cancer, as well as reviewer for research applications to the Leukaemia Foundation and ARC.
